The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Class is limited to 10 participants. The course prerequisites include participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course, swim 200 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2-minutes using only legs and a retrieval of an 10-pound object in 7-10 feet of water with two 20 yard swims in 1 minute, 40 seconds. During each class, participants should be prepared to go in the water and have the appropriate swimming attire. Enrollment does not guarantee certification. Completion of the course will require 100% attendance, performing 3 exit skills scenarios, and scoring 80% or higher on the written test. Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive an American Red Cross Universal Certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, which is valid for 2 years. |
